HHSLadyCrossCountry

Dedication, discipline, involvement, and perseverance are deeply rooted within the Harlingen Lady Cardinal Cross Country team.

Before the sun rises, members of the Harlingen Lady Cardinal Cross Country are already preparing for their morning run. Armed with reflective gear and a light, these young athletes begin their school day with 6:00 A.M. practice. After several miles, they cool down, stretch, shower, eat and get ready for the second part of their day. They all attend classes at HHS, Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy, or the Harlingen School of Health Professions.

For many of these exceptional team members, the end of the school day is followed by additional civic and extra-curricular activities.

Collectively, the Lady Cardinal Cross Country members are involved in activities such as band, color guard, volleyball, orchestra, choir, cheerleading, speech and drama, club soccer, travel softball, Girl Scouts, Business Professionals of America, National Honor Society, Student Council, FFA and CCD.

But don’t think by any means that these young ladies have overextended themselves. You will find highly decorated team members within this group.

Three individuals are cross-country regional qualifiers. One is a state champion in the Arroyo Soccer League, and another is a qualifier in the national competition for Business Professionals of America. Three are state marching championship qualifiers. One of the team members is a dance winner at the University of Texas Cheer Camp, and another individual is a bronze and silver award Girl Scout, who recently taught 140 girls how to build a fire.

It is their mantra of relentless pursuit of success that has enabled these student-athletes to excel continuously in academics and all of their endeavors.
