Harlingen CISD is proud to announce that Kevin Garcia has been named interim principal for UTRGV Harlingen Collegiate High School.
Garcia has served Harlingen CISD for the past year and a half as the Director of Advanced Academic Services. He has worked in education for the past 17 years and celebrates the opportunities he has earned in supporting the education of students at all levels. He started his career in education as a 7th grade Mathematics teacher in Austin’s deserving east side. After five years in the classroom, he transitioned into administration, where he has worked on creating system-wide change that benefits teachers, families, and students. His work has focused on innovative programming and he helped establish one of the first PTECHS in an Early College High School in central Texas.
Kevin Garcia received his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. He returned shortly after to complete a post-baccalaureate teaching certification in Mathematics through the UTeach program. He holds a Master’s in Educational Administration from the UT Principalship Program. He is also pursuing a doctorate in Cooperative Superintendency at UT and hopes to finish this spring. Mr. Garcia enjoys spending his free time working on cars, computers, or cooking.
“Throughout my seventeen years in education, I have worked towards building my own leadership through meaningful experiences. I have served as a substitute teacher, mathematics teacher, high school assistant principal, elementary principal, middle school principal, director of professional development, and director of advanced academic services. However, my most important role is that of a learner. I am honored to serve Harlingen Collegiate High School and continue the mission of providing the highest quality education and educational opportunities possible.”
