HHSS athletes continue athletic careers

Gabby Cavazos, Jackie Martinez, Justin Kitten, Frank Jimenez, and Austin Lambert, seniors at Harlingen High School South, have made the choice to continue their dedication to academics and athletics after they graduate this May.

Cavazos, Jimenez and Lambert signed their letters of intent to play ball at the collegiate level on May 7.

Cavazos earned an athletic scholarship to play at University of Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio. This year, she was placed on the 32-5A First All District Team and second team All-Valley.

Jimenez and Lambert signed with Texas State and Jamestown College (N.D.), respectively, to play football this coming year. Jimenez and Lambert served as pivotal players this football season, and played key roles in assisting the varsity football team in achieve  the title of co-District Champion.

Kitten, who signed his letter of intent on May 8, will continue to advance his golf career at the University of Texas at Brownsville.

On May 9, Martinez signed her letter to play basketball at Shreiner University and receive an athletic scholarship. Martinez was named Offensive Player of the Year and received a place Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All Region team.

To celebrate their academic and athletic achievements, administration, teachers and students came out to share the excitement in the HHSS cafeteria for all signing students.
