HHS Masterminds prepare to test their knowledge

The Harlingen High School Masterminds team is preparing to test their knowledge at the next round of the televised competition.

The team will be facing Saint Joseph’s Academy from Brownsville on Jan. 28 in the KRGV Channel 5 News competitions. The competition is an academic quiz for high school students from across the Rio Grande Valley.

Teams answer questions on subjects like history, math, english, current events, art and music. The competition takes place throughout the school year. Campus teams are picked to compete by using a draw system.

Participating students will be HHS juniors Nikki Fleuriet, Seton Uhlhorn and Quentin Hale. Students were selected to participate based on their curious nature, said Robert Hill, teacher at HHS and masterminds team sponsor.

To prepare, the team has been keeping a close eye on current events and reviewing different periods of art. Although they plan to absorb any bit of knowledge that may be useful, the students admit that most of the information they will has been cultivated over time.

Prior to competing in the second round, HHS soared past PSJA to win with a score of 220 – 210.

To every team that competes, Channel 5 donates $100 to the campus for library renovations.
