Harlingen High School junior Roman Hernandez sprinted past the competition during the Region IV-5A track and field meet in San Antonio on April 27.
Hernandez came in second place during the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 37.64, a personal best. Along with his second place finish, he also qualified for the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Track and Field State Meet in Austin on May 10.
“It’s one of the greatest feelings I’ve ever had,” Hernandez said. “I wanted to dig deep and finish the best I could. I dug deeper in the deepest valley in my body and pushed through.”
Hernandez will be going to the state meet for the first time. To qualify for the region meet, he previously placed first in the 300-meter hurdles at the UIL area competition.
