HHS, HHSS track and field athletes advance to state

Harlingen High School sophomore Jose Garcia broke a record Saturday.

Garcia took first place while breaking the regional record in the 100-meter dash at the UIL Conference 6A Track and Field Region IV Championship. Garcia finished the race in 10.43 seconds at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio. His win puts him in position to compete at the state championship next month.

Harlingen High School South’s Andrew Ott also qualified for state in shot put. Ott placed second at regionals with a hurl of 60 feet.

The state championship will be held May 11 in Austin.
