We are excited to announce that three Harlingen CISD campuses—Wilson Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, and Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy—have been honored with the prestigious Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas Award. This recognition, sponsored by the Texas School Counselor Association, celebrates the dedication and expertise of school counseling teams that promote academic, social, and emotional success for students.
This marks the first time in district history that HCISD has received this recognition.
The CREST award recognizes schools that meet high standards in five areas, including how counseling programs are planned, implemented, and contribute to student success.
Campuses submitted detailed digital reports last fall, outlining how their counseling programs are structured to support student achievement and well-being. Winning this award highlights the incredible dedication of our counseling teams and sets an example for schools across Texas.
As part of this recognition, the schools will receive a CREST banner to proudly display on campus. The awardees will be formally recognized at the TSCA Professional School Counselor Conference Awards Dinner on February 2, 2025, at the Galveston Convention Center.
