Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Chess teams are celebrating big after finding success at the SuperNationals VI Chess Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee.
Breaking the record as the most attended chess tournament, over 5,000 chess players competed for trophies both on an individual and team level. Coakley Middle School students brought home seventh place in the Championship K-8 Championship Division. Individually, William McNutt placed 23rd with 5 points, Carlos DeLeon 32nd place with 5 points (tied for 25th), Eric Soto 172th place with 3 points (he also received a special trophy for ratings of 1000-1099: 2nd place), Jacob Fox 190th place with 2.5 pts, and Aaralyn Medina 241st place with 1 point.
Wilson Elementary came in 14th place, Sam Houston Elementary won 18th place, and Early College high school came in 42nd in the K-12 Championship Division.
