The Board of Trustees, district administrators, Harlingen officials, and community members came together to celebrate public education as the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District kicked off its weeklong dedication to Texas schools on February 27 with an opening ceremony at Boggus Stadium.
“We marched and we celebrated all the great things that public education in the city of Harlingen has to offer,” Rodriguez Elementary Principal Traci Gonzalez said. “We take the opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful instructional programs we have along with extracurricular and co-curricular activities.”
The excitement is part of the 2017 Texas Public Schools Week (TPSW), which gives students and educators the chance to highlight the outstanding work that takes place on their campus and other campuses around the state each day.
“This kind of rally is important because it shows the public that the public school systems are strong and very productive and that the kids are getting a quality education at HCISD,” Superintendent Art Cavazos said. “We are super proud of our kids and continue to champion their work. At the end of the day, public education is an equalizer and we want our kids to be at the front of the line of opportunities.”
Throughout the week, the campuses at HCISD will be hosting celebrations and different activities to honor public education.
The “Power of Public” has been designated as this year’s theme for TPSW.
