The National Association Music Merchants named Harlingen CISD one of the “Best Communities for Music Education” for its ongoing commitment to music education, the association announced this week.
The designation is awarded to districts demonstrating exceptional achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
“The award program recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education,” according to NAMM’s website.
To qualify for the designation, Harlingen CISD responded to detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities and support for music programs. The answers were reviewed by the Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
