Harlingen CISD is thrilled to announce that the Aquatic Center has received the STEP INTO SWIM Grant, which will allow us to offer free swimming lessons to 50 students this summer. This grant is an extension of our SEAL (Safely Educating Aquatic Learners) Program, which already provides free swimming lessons to 2nd grade students and 8th-12th grade Special Education Life Skills students during the school year.
The SEAL Program, which began in the 2014-2015 school year, is part of our district’s Physical Education program. It aims to teach water safety and swimming skills to students who may not otherwise have access to lessons. Throughout the school year, students are bused to the Aquatic Center, where certified instructors and American Red Cross First Aid Certified Lifeguards provide lessons in a safe and supportive environment.
With the STEP INTO SWIM Grant, funds will allow us to offer swimming lessons in the summer to Harlingen CISD students who did not previously participate in the SEAL Program or received any basic swimming instruction.
“Harlingen CISD would like to sincerely thank STEP INTO SWIM for their generous support,” said Yvonne Moran, Aquatic Center Coordinator. “We truly appreciate this partnership, which allows us to provide even more students with the opportunity to learn vital water safety skills. This grant will have a lasting impact on our students, and we are grateful for the chance to make swimming lessons accessible to more families in our community.”
