Fortunate students at the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District will soon have new shoes to slip their feet into.

The Cameron County Bar Association Women’s Law Section in support of their Sneakers for Students Program recently presented HCISD with 111 Payless Shoe Source vouchers towards the purchase of new pairs of shoes for students.

The donation was made possible through a partnership with the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation and the First Family Network of Cameron County.

A total of 1,117 vouchers were delivered to school districts countywide due to the growing success of the Sneakers for Students Program. The program was created after members of the CCBA WLS saw the economic need in Cameron County.

“There are so many kids that don’t have the financial resources to buy a pair of shoes,” said a CCBA WLS spokesperson. “We saw that there was a need in the community and the Women’s Law Section of Attorneys felt that they wanted to give back to the community. We’re so lucky to be in this profession that allows us the freedom and the flexibility to be able to help the community.”

This big-hearted contribution kicks off the Heroes for Harlingen CISD’s very own Share Your Sole Shoe Drive, which will take place throughout the month of February.

Heroes for Harlingen CISD is requesting that donations of new tennis shoes, in any size be dropped off at HCISD’s Administration Building located at 407 N. 77 Sunshine Strip, Harlingen, TX 78550, from 8:00 A.M.- 4:30 P.M.
