College Showcase: HHS’ Savannah C. Butters

Feature3

What is your career goal?
I want to intern for a major company, preferably an agri-business company.

Describe a school experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it.
My Harlingen FFA Chapter is a close knit family of about 60 members. We do a lot of things together. I feel most close to them. We do community service together, as well as compete and raise our animals together. Raising animals is an interesting project to have because your work is reflected in the quality of your animal. Being able to work with those people to communicate and have teamwork. Along with projects with animals, FFA offers career development events and leadership development events. There team events as well. We really work hard to get together and advocate for our chapter.

What types of community service have you participated in? What did you learn from that experience? How has it benefited you as a person and/or shaped your future.
Through FFA have many opportunities to help out the community. I’m able to work with others. I enjoy being able to volunteer in different ways and show people that our youth does care. For everything that our community has done for us, I want to give back. I like that about community service.

Were you always a high achieving student academically? Explain. If not what was the defining moment that changed that? What has been your motivation?
I always strive to do my best. I feel that if I’m not using my full potential, I’m being wasteful. In the sense of our economy today not using my full potential wouldn’t be benefiting my country. It’s not a single person that is motivating me, but it’s me just wanting to be at my best.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten years, aside from my career goals and aspirations, I want to still be happy and possess a positive attitude. I would like to see myself working for a company in which I wholly believe in. That’s why I would like to go into business because I see myself good at leading others, communicating, and organizing. I’d want to use my strengths in what I choose to do for the rest of my life. I want to use those strengths, but I want to be happy as well.
