Coakley orchestra performs at elementary schools

The Coakley Middle School’s Orchestra showed off their talents to the elementary school students of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District on Dec. 13.

Thirty students from the Honors orchestra participated in a Winter Tour. They performed at Ben Milam Elementary, Bowie Elementary, Sam Houston Elementary, and Treasure Hills Elementary School.

At every school they visit, they will be performing holiday tunes. The musical pieces comprised of traditional holiday songs as well as Puerto Rican Christmas carols.

“It’s a good opportunity for the students to be exposed about the educational side of orchestra,” said Lucas Darger, orchestra director at Coakley. “Plus the elementary kids really enjoy It.”

The next performance for the orchestra will be at the Coakley Christmas Performance on Dec. 21. They also plan on joining the Coakley Band and Choir to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary on Dec. 18.
