The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Nelda Ann Alonzo as the Assistant Principal at Vela Middle School and Felicia Garcia as the Coordinator for Special Education during their regular meeting on October 14.
Alonzo continues to go above and beyond for the Vela learning community. She first arrived at Vela in 2006 to serve as teacher for 7 years and then served as instructional facilitator. She will continue to promote the panther campus ideology that fosters a college geared atmosphere. Alonzo earned her bachelors degree from Texas A&I.
Garcia returns to HCISD after serving as Educational Diagnostician at WilCam Co-Op in Raymondville, Texas. Her first experience in education was in 2004 when she taught at Memorial Middle School. After teaching, Garcia served as Education Consultant at Pearson in Pheonix, Arizona for four years. She earned her bachelors degree from St. Edwards University and her masters from the University of Texas at Brownsville.
