Award-winning Air Force JROTC hosts basic training for new recruits

Air Force JROTC Cadets from Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy and Harlingen High School South recently completed their Basic Training Adventure Camp held July 25-August 2.

As part of this introductory camp, cadets participated in physical training, team building activities, and leadership workshops. Those who successfully passed received their first promotion rank at the end of the camp.

To celebrate their graduation, new cadets were taken on a field trip to South Padre Island where they had the chance to visit the United States Coast Guard and U.S. Border Patrol Special Marine Operations.

Earlier this year the Air Force JROTC earned the Distinguished Unit Award with Merit.

“Only a small percentage of the over 900 units worldwide obtain this distinction,” said Master Sergeant Armando Tsukano. “The extremely rigorous inspection was conducted this last school year and reflects the unit’s efforts, and the illustrious leadership our cadets provide in a program that builds character with merit.”

Next up for the Air Force JROTC is a free Drill Camp which will be held August 7-11, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The camp will be open to all current and new AFJROTC cadets.
