HS students outsmart the competition at State UIL Academic Meet

Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South went on to compete in the 2014 UIL Academic State Meet in Austin on May 19-21.

From HHSS, in Informative Extemporaneous Speaking, Jann Soto placed second. In Prose Interpretation, Paige Robles placed third.

In the Latino Writing Essay, Marissa Trevino placed first, Emily Susen placed third, and Christopher Hinojosa placed fourth. In the Barbara Jordan essay, Joshua Anderson placed third. John Fraga placed sixth in Editorial Writing.

From HHS, Austin Wright placed sixth in Computer Applications, and Gilbert Maldonado placed 18th in Computer Science.

The students who competed at state had to qualify at the 2014 UIL Academic Regional Meet by placing first or second in their respective event.
