HCISD middle school bands competed in the UIL Competition in Donna, Tx this past Thursday and Friday.
Memorial Middle School’s 7th and 8th grade band received all 1’s in concert and in sight-reading. These ratings earned MMS the Sweepstakes title. MMS was the only school in HCISD to earn the double sweepstakes award.
Coakley Middle School earned Superior and Excellent ratings from the judges. The band received all 1’s in concert and also in sight-reading. The symphonic band received a 1, 2, 2 on stage and all 1’s in sight-reading.
Gutierrez Middle School earned the Sweepstakes title for its symphonic band, and received a 2, 2, 1 from the judges in concert and all 1’s in sight-reading.
Vernon Middle School received superior ratings for their concert band and superior ratings for the symphonic band in sight-reading. The symphonic band earned the Sweepstakes title.
Vela Middle School earned Sweepstakes and received all 1’s in concert and all 1’s in sight-reading as well.
Other schools that competed were Donna, Weslaco, Edcouch-Elsa, La Feria, Mercedes, Rio Hondo, Santa Rosa, and Lyford. A total of 24 bands competed.
