The teachers of Cadre 1 rang in the start of the holiday season with a day of enrichment on Dec. 7.
Twenty teachers from Digital Classrooms across the district participated in the first Techmas event. The all-day workshop was dedicated to the development of the premiere set of technology rich classrooms. Teachers were engaged while presentations were given on applications in the classroom, curriculum and technology, the impact of social networking on a class and building websites.
The intimate setting for technological growth provided instructors the perfect outlets to share their classroom stories and listen to outside experiences.
“We are discussing what is going on in our classrooms, and collaborating with our peers to find out what works for us as far as the technology,” said Ezelina Marroquin, eighth grade language arts and reading teacher at Vela Middle School. “We ask what has been effective, and we are getting feedback on what needs to be tweaked in order to be successful.”
The day’s enrichment sessions led up to the challenge to take everything they’ve learning throughout the day and incorporate it into a classroom showcase.
Educational advancement doesn’t stop at the end of the day; activities were created to model techniques that could be applied in the classroom, said Veronica Kortan, director of staff development.
With the success of the day, teachers look forward to additional opportunities to come together and make progress in their classrooms. They also hope to potentially attract more teachers to the educational transition, Marroquin said.
