Harlingen CISD is proud to share that Dr. Tina Garza, principal of Harlingen School of Health Professions, has been named a finalist for the 2026 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards.
Dr. Garza is one of 68 finalists selected from across Texas, recognized for her leadership and commitment to students and the community. The award honors educators who go above and beyond to make a difference.
“Dr. Garza, a huge congratulations to you,” said Superintendent Dr. Veronica Kortan. “It warms my heart to be able to see you have this recognition. It is because of you that this school is so special. You feel a culture where people care about one another and hold each other to a high level of expectations.”
Dr. Garza shared her gratitude following the surprise announcement.
“I am very, very excited and was super surprised by all of the celebrations that were here for me,” she said. “I’m just honored that H-E-B has selected me to be one of the finalists.”
As part of the recognition, Dr. Garza received a $1,000 award, and her campus was awarded $2,500.
Finalists were selected following months of surprise visits and evaluations across the state. Winners will be announced later this year.
