HCISD hosted its first digitally distributed kick-off celebration on Thursday for half of its 28 campuses, the kick-off will continue throughout Friday for the remaining schools.
“We are growing into a digital district, which will allow us to utilize technology inside and outside our classrooms,” said HCISD Superintendent Dr. Steve Flores. “We believe our actions should be reflective of our district’s technological developments, and that is why are kick-off was held digitally this year.”
Teachers, administrators and staff members were delighted to view the streamed presentation as they wore their school shirts and cheered when their campus appeared on screen.
The digital distribution did not change the overall focus of the presentation. The emphasis was always on the students of HCISD.
“Kick-off is a celebration of our wonderful students and outstanding district employees,” said Angel Paxton, principal of Early College High School. “It gets us excited and focused on the start of the new academic year and provides us the opportunity to reflect on our true daily mission- to provide the best educational opportunities for every student who walks on to our campus.”
Presenters included HCISD elementary teacher of the year Michelle Ayala, Dr. Flores, school board president Dr. Cesar Maldonaldo and special guest speaker, award winning journalist John Quiñones.
Each presenter offered words of optimism and confidence that 2012 – 2013 would be HCISD’s best school year to date.
“The entire school board continues to be amazed how every year we serve you and the community,” Maldonaldo said. “Somehow you make our schools better than the prior year, and it’s the teaming and networking that make us a better district year after year.”
Classes for all HCISD campuses will begin on Aug. 27, and kick-off next year will be hosted at HCISD’s Performing Arts Center, which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2013.
