Harlingen, TX – The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District (HCISD) Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department was selected as a grant recipient of the Texas Bar Foundation to support its Law and Public Service program of study.
The grant will benefit students at Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South through the “Empowering Youth Through Law and Civic Engagement” project, which integrates legal instruction, civic engagement, and real-world application to help students better understand their legal rights and responsibilities. The initiative also promotes civic participation through partnerships with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Cameron and Willacy Counties and community outreach.
“This grant provides our students with a unique opportunity to understand the justice system in a meaningful way, see how the law impacts people’s lives, and recognize how they can make a difference in their communities,” said Nelda Alonzo, Director of Career and Technical Education. “We are incredibly grateful to the Texas Bar Foundation for its support, which helps us inspire the next generation of advocates, attorneys, and community leaders.”
Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $30 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably-funded bar foundation.
