Superintendent Dr. Steve Flores selected to participate in Future-Ready Superintendents Leadership Institute

The Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) has selected Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Steve Flores to participate in the Future-Ready Superintendents Leadership Institute.

“To represent the students, parents, teachers, staff members and administration of HCISD at the Future-Ready Superintendents Leadership Institute is truly an honor,” Dr. Flores said. “This selection reflects the high standards we hold for our district, and the efforts of our entire HCISD community. As the institute commences, we will look to develop educational frameworks that will meet the needs of Texas Public Education students in the 21st century.”

A total of 39 superintendents were selected to participate. The program’s charge is to develop and sustain leaders who are willing to expand their leadership beyond the local level and work together to define the future of public education in our state.

TASA’s Future-Ready Superintendents Leadership Institute is designed to create a cadre of superintendents who will help develop and initiate innovative, systemic changes, both locally and statewide, that support the mission of the original Public Education Visioning Institute and the Texas High Performance Schools Consortium.

Selected from 57 applicants, the 39 Future-Ready superintendents and senior-level district administrators in the early stages of their careers will work together in the spirit of student-centered learning. The design of the institute is modeled after elements of project-based learning (PBL), action research, the flipped classroom and design thinking.

“The selection of Dr. Flores to participate in the Future-Ready Leadership institute allows our district to be heard when developing changes to the Texas Public Education system,” said School Board President Dr. Cesar Maldonado. “The collaborative nature of the institute provides not only ourselves, but districts across Texas the chance to develop a system of excellence in education.”

There are five institute sessions, with the first session beginning on November 8 and the remaining sessions continuing through September 2013.

Institute participants will gain enhanced capabilities to lead in times of change; increased capacity to transform the system, including a sustained collaborative network among the participants; and clarity of vision as the participants create models of student-centered schools across the state.
