Person of the Week: Araiza keeps HCISD connected

When Javier Araiza hears the word “master” it can apply to a couple of things. From his barbequing talents to his career, Araiza continually works to keep at the top of his game.

Araiza is the District Webmaster for the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. He collects, creates and updates the pages that make up the district’s main website. His efforts keep the webpage up to date with the latest news around HCISD.

To ensure all 28 campuses are able to showcase their weekly happenings, Araiza often assists and advises school webmasters with their pages.

“To keep up with how fast software changes, I’ll talk with other districts and go to technology conferences,” Araiza said. “I’m always looking for new ways to get everyone involved.”

In addition, he manages the district’s printing services. The district’s print shop is charged with making sure all of the documents requested from campuses are ready for the classroom.  From tests to event invitations, he and the department work together to meet all of their deadlines.

“Anything we do takes a team,” said Araiza. “It’s the work of that team that makes us successful.”

During his spare time, you can find him by a football field or barbeque pit. Araiza spends almost every weekend working towards mastering the preparation of grilled fare, and supporting his favorite teams. The list includes both high school teams at HCISD. Throughout the football season you can find him manning the replay button in the Boggus Stadium press box.

“ I love supporting our teams in any way that I can,” Araiza said.

Araiza has been with HCISD for 7 years, and is a graduate from Harlingen High School South. He returned to the district after college, which offered him the unique opportunity to give back to where it all started, Araiza said.

“Being a part of the school district is like it is with family,” Araiza said. “I’ve made a lot of friends and it’s been great to come back and help the teachers and people that helped me”
