HCISD kicks-off Early College Awareness Week

ECHS students bring a guest for the school’s Bring a Friend Social on March 22. The social kicks-off the campus’ ECHS Awareness Week activities.

Starting March 25, the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District will recognize early college campuses across the nation by celebrating Early College Awareness Week.

The week is dedicated to raising awareness of school districts nationwide that have adopted early college designs to increase graduation rates and the college readiness of students.

To celebrate, Early College High School will host a variety of events aimed at educating the community about the benefits of enrollment at an early college campus.  Their first event was the Bring a Friend to ECHS Social on March 22. Freshmen on campus were encouraged to bring someone unfamiliar with the campus for an evening of educational fun and socializing.

Early college high schools implement a bold approach, based on the principle that academic rigor, combined with the opportunity to save time and money, can motivate students to take on serious intellectual challenges. While enrolled, students can simultaneously earn a high school diploma and an Associate’s degree or up to two years of credit toward a Bachelor’s degree, tuition free.

Early college campuses serve more than 75,000 students across the nation.
