Students from across the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District showcased their talents in the Fine Arts to celebrate the inaugural year of the Performing Arts Center on April 22.
The Choir, Orchestra, Band and Drill Team ensembles from both Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South performed musical pieces for community members, business leaders and members of HCISD administration.
The Theater students from HHS and HHSS performed a small portion of their rehearsed plays. HHS performed The Glass Menagerie, An Inside Look, and HHSS performed A Whole New World from “Aladdin”.
The HHS Cardettes performed a dance to A Little Party Never Hurt Nobody from “The Great Gatsby” and the HHSS Southern Stars performed to Call Me Home by Heather Little.
The PAC celebrated its official opening in September. The PAC was intended to host inspire students to participate in campus fine arts programs and host region University Interscholastic League performances and competitions.
“Our Performing Arts Center offers our students the opportunity to showcase their talents in a state-of-the-art facility while developing a passion and appreciation for the arts,” said Superintendent Dr. Art Cavazos. “We strive to create programs, initiatives and facilities that promote the development of well-rounded individuals and benefit our community by providing an access area for enriching live performances. Today was a prime example of those inatitives in effect and the talent our students possess.”
The PAC is fully decorated with colorful LED lights, decorative tiles, beautiful artwork, and over 900 cushioned seats.
The PAC was part of the $98.6 million bond that was passed in May 2010 by Harlingen voters.
It was an awesome evening of great performances.
