HCISD approves changes to Class of 2015 Commencement Ceremonies

HCISD-Graduation

With the growing success of its high schools and mission to keep safety at the forefront at all times, the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District has approved changes to Commencement Ceremonies for the Class of 2015.

To make certain of our community’s safety, the time and date of the Harlingen High School commencement ceremony was shifted to 7:30 p.m. on May 29, 2015. The following day, May 30, 2015, Harlingen High School South will celebrate their commencement at 7:30 p.m. Both ceremonies will be hosted at J. Lewis Boggus Stadium.

Also celebrated that Saturday will be Early College High School students. Their ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the district’s Performing Arts Center, 3217 W. Wilson Rd, on May 30, 2015.

With a shift in commencement ceremony times, a change will also be seen in Graduation Celebration and the beginning of a new Harlingen CISD tradition. For 2015, Harlingen High School will host a celebration for their students at their respective campus from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. on May 29. Harlingen High School South will have their graduation celebration at their campus from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. on May 30. Early College High School students will have the opportunity to attend the Harlingen High School or the Harlingen High School South graduation celebration. We are excited to begin this new tradition as it provides an opportunity to have the first annual Zero Year Reunion. Graduation Celebration will now allow seniors to celebrate as a senior class, one last time, until their ten-year reunion in 2025!

“Our annual commencement ceremonies represent a monumental achievement for our students and a time of celebration for our families,” said Superintendent Dr. Art Cavazos. “We strive to ensure the safety of all in attendance during the ceremonies, and the decision to adjust our commencement times was made after much deliberation. Ultimately, this option will provide the safest option for all in attendance. As we will now celebrate our three comprehensive high schools on Friday and Saturday, it will be a time for our entire HCISD family to show their support for our students and their futures.”

  1. As one of the teachers who had to sit out in the hot sun last year, I applaud this decision.
