Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy Pathway Showcase 2014

As eighth grade students at HCISD get ready to start their first year at the Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy, they share their selections for the career pathway they will focus on.

At the Cano Academy, students are given the opportunity to select one of five academic schools that will serve as programs of study throughout their high school education. Pathways include, Business, Education, Liberal Arts, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and Health Science.

1_Cameron

“I chose to go into Health Science because I enjoy helping people out in every way possible. I hope to get a feel for what I’m signing up for when I grow older by being able to study my selected pathway early on. What I’m looking forward to the most about starting my freshman year at the Cano Academy is learning more about my career path.”

2_Jerry

“I chose STEM because I really enjoy computers and engineering and decided that it would be a good path to undergo. I hope to gain a lot of experience in the field of study I am going to be in. I believe that when I go to college I will be really prepared for my studies. I am looking forward to meeting all the new students that will be coming from their respective middle schools. I feel that the Cano Academy is a very diverse campus and I’m looking forward to it.”

“I choose Liberal Arts because I really enjoy graphic design and animation. It has always been something I wanted to do growing up. I hope to gain understanding and knowledge on my career choice. What I’m looking forward to the most my freshman year at the Cano Academy is meeting new people and making new friends with the same interests as me.”

“I chose STEM (agriculture) because ever since I was little I have always wanted to be a veteran or a zoologist. I hope to gain so much knowledge when I go to the Cano Academy. I want to learn on how to be the best in what I want to do in the future and do what I can to be the best. I am looking forward to everything at Cano, such as the new teachers, the new students, and I’m very excited about the pathway I chose.”

“I chose the school of Health Science because I have a deep interest in the medical field and would like to have an occupation in this field in my future. I hope to gain more knowledge about the medical field and health science. I would also hope to gain more interest than I already have about this certain pathway. I’m looking forward to growing academically and personally as a freshman at the Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy.”

“I chose the Liberal Arts pathway because I would like to be a musician when I grow up. I hope to set more goals and have much more time to achieve them. Since I already know what I want to be, I can focus more and be more determined to achieve them. I hope to be around people who share my interests and similarities, so they can push me to do my best in everything I do.”

“I chose the school of STEM because I have always been interested in the field of science. My future career is to become a scientist in the field of Geology. I hope to find out if this is the pathway I will take through high school and college. I want to figure out my strengths and weaknesses and be able to build up on them. I am looking forward to meeting new people, participating in all the sports that I can, and showing what I am capable of.”
