College Showcase: ECHS’ Kimberly Azua

What are your career goals?
I want to be a successful person. I want to help others by working as a psychologist in a prison someday.

What teacher or teachers have influenced you the most during your time in high school?
Ms. Paxton our principal, Ms. Ramos my math teacher, and Ms. Jimenez our P.E. teacher have always been there when I’ve needed them. They’ve been the ones to really push me along the way. If I have wanted to give up, they were the ones to say, keep going. I really love that about them.

Describe a school experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it.
Running for class officer was actually a big experience for me because I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. It has actually helped me realize that I’m a really good leader. It taught me that I have a lot of potential in things that I didn’t think I could do. I feel like I’m really coming into my own.

What organizations are you a part of?
I’m involved in class cabinet, National Honor Society, student council, and the Student Advisory Board. The responsibility I’ve taken on in these organizations has helped me become a better leader. The love I get back from my peers and the community is what I enjoy the most.

Were you always a high achieving student academically? Explain. If not what was the defining moment that changed that? What has been your motivation?
My mom is my biggest motivation. She keeps me on track and I greatly really appreciate that. Without her I wouldn’t be in the position I’m in. I give all that credit to my mom. Education is the big factor in life. You got to be happy, if you’re not happy, you don’t have a good life basically.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself as an officer in the Navy. Hopefully I can make the Navy a career. I just see myself as a high-ranking officer. My dad was in the U.S. Air Force. That’s where I get my military aspirations.
