Linda Salinas, social studies teacher at Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy, is among 100 educators nationwide to be chosen for the 2015 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator, which recognizes tech-savvy K-12 leaders who are committed to innovative teaching practices that integrate digital media and technology in the classroom.

A proud product of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District, she engages students in her classroom by incorporating technology and project-based learning. Taking advantage of available digital resources, students are encouraged to become their own experts to solve real-world problems.

“I am extremely honored to be recognized at the national level for my efforts,” said Salinas. “Being a digital innovator will help me build my professional learning network with educators from around the country. This opportunity will also allow me to grow as an educator and as an individual by providing me with access to resources and professional development sessions that will explore ways to transform teaching and learning.”

Salinas said, she is grateful most of all to the teachers, colleagues and administrators who have helped her along the way, allowing her to discover her passion.

As a member of the program, Salinas will have access to yearlong professional development opportunities, and benefits including virtual trainings, access to premium and exclusive resources, a free PBS TeacherLine course, invitations to special events, membership into a robust professional learning community, and networking and engagement opportunities with peers and thought leaders.
