Whatever it takes: Vela percussion ensemble brings home first place

Attitude, discipline, and practice are at the core of the Vela Middle School Indoor Percussion Ensemble.

Their dedication helped them bring home first place in the middle school division of the Robert Vela High School Drumline Competition on Saturday, September 20. The percussion section competed in Edinburg, Texas, under the student leadership of Section Leader Zack Peña.

Distinguished university percussion professors and top professional percussion educators from the state of Texas adjudicated the competition. The 18-member ensemble has worked tirelessly and has dedicated many hours since the beginning of the school year.
