Tina Garza to Lead School of Health Professions

At the July 18th special board meeting the HCISD Board of Trustees approved Mrs. Tina Garza for the position of principal of the School of Health Professions. Mrs. Garza is a graduate of Sam Houston State and the University of Texas Pan American. She has served in the Harlingen School District since 1994 as a teacher at Harlingen High School, Science Content Area Specialist and most recently as Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Mrs. Garza stated,  “I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to serve as principal of the School  of Health Professions. I look forward to taking this innovative campus to a level that meets the needs of the students of HCISD in the field of medicine.” Mrs. Garza has two sons, Michael and Julian who attend HCISD schools, and is married to Michael A. Garza.

The School of Health Professions, which will be located next to Memorial Middle School on Rio Hondo Road, is scheduled to open in August of 2014. The campus will begin with 8th and 9th grade students then introduce a new grade each proceeding year. There will be six areas of focus which are Sports Medicine, Dental Science, Medical Science Research, Patient Care, Pharmacology and Surgical Technology. Total enrollment will be approximately 550 students.  The campus is expected to break ground in August of 2013.
