Sam Houston places 11th, chess teams earn top marks at National Competition

On May 9-11, Dishman Elementary, Treasure Hills Elementary, Sam Houston Elementary and Coakley Middle School competed in Dallas, Tx in the National Elementary Chess Tournament.

As a team, Sam Houston placed 11th in the K-5 Championship division. In the K-3 under 800 division, Houston placed 21st and Dishman placed 25th. In the K-5 under 900 division, Houston placed 31st, Dishman placed 42nd, and Treasure Hills placed 64th. Dishman placed 28th in the K-1 Championship division. Coakley placed 34th in the K-6 under 1000 division.

Individually, students who placed in the top 100 were, Austin Kennedy from Dishman who placed 100th, from Houston, Michael Casas placed 67th and Carlos Deleon placed 81st, from Coakley, Jorge Olivarez placed 78th.
