Partners in Education event raises funds for students and teachers

The Partners in Education (PIE) event, a fundraising event organized by the Harlingen Education Area Foundation, allows the community to see what Harlingen CISD is all about.

“We invite the community to come out and experience the talent that the HCISD students have,” HAEF President Belinda Zapata said. “These partners in education pay sponsorships for a table, knowing that all the money is going to be used for scholarships for the kids and for teacher innovation grants.”

This year, HAEF raised more than $45,000 from the luncheon which was held on September 16 at the Harlingen Convention Center.

“We sold 250 seats,” Zapata said. “So, it was a really big success. We appreciate the community coming together and supporting the school district. If people are not familiar with the academies that Harlingen CISD has, the Partners in Education event is a wonderful opportunity for them to come in and get a bird’s eye view of what the academies can do for the children that are enrolled in HCISD.”

The event featured several student performances, and students representing the various HCISD academies joined in on the celebration too.

“This was a celebration of the partnerships that we have with our community, all designed to benefit our students,” Superintendent Dr. Alicia Noyola said. “We are super excited that we had such a great turnout of people that are just committed to giving our kids opportunities for success, and we are just so grateful as a school district for that.”
