Munivez to head HHS, Board approves three assistant principals

The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Imelda Munivez to be the next principal at Harlingen High School during a special meeting Monday night.

The board also approved the hiring of three new assistant principals — Michelle Gonzalez at Treasure Hills Elementary, Melissa Almaraz at Lee Means Elementary and Jacinto Sauceda at Coakley Middle School.

Munivez comes into her new position at HHS after serving the campus as an assistant principal since 2008. She also served the campus as an interim principal during the end of 2011. She brings 16 years of experience in education, including stops at the university of Texas at Brownsville, Los Fresnos Independent School District, KEYS Academy and three years at HHS as a counselor.

Munivez is a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin. She received her masters degree from the UTB.

Sauceda will take over as the assistant principal at Coakley after 11 years with the Lasar, PSJA and Edinburg school districts, where he served as a teacher, coach and assistant principal. He earned his bachelors degree from Sam Houston State, and holds a masters degree from the University of Texas-Pan American.

An assistant principal at HHS, Michelle Gonzalez, will shift to Treasure Hills Elementary to take the campus’s vacated assistant principal position. Gonzalez will join the Treasure Hills staff after three years at HHS as an assistant principal and a counselor. She has also served Ben Milam Elementary, as well as Mercedes and PSJA school districts as an elementary school principal and counselor.

Gonzalez holds bachelors and masters degrees from the UTPA.

Almaraz will shift into a new position at Lee Means Elementary after serving the campus for three years as its counselor. She also holds three additional years of experience from Long Elementary, where she taught third and fourth grade. She holds a bachelors degree from Texas A&M University – Kingsville and her masters degree from UTPA.
