The Harlingen High School South’s Speech Drama and Debate teams had an outstanding performance at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 32-5A CX Debate District Meet on Jan. 31.
Seniors Luana Chaires and Dante Colmenares were named district champions by earning first place. June Martinez, junior, and Apdolloh Huyun, senior, placed second. Senior Devon Fierro and sophomore Matthew Almager placed fourth in the competition.
First and Second place teams qualified for the UIL’s 103rd state cross-examination debate meet to be held on March 14-16 at the University of Texas at Austin.
The spring UIL Academic and speaking event 32-5A district meet will be held at Hanna High School on March 23.
