Students at the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District were awarded for their creativity in spreading the word about fire safety in April.

Four students were selected as the top winners in the District Fire Prevention Poster Contest for their artistic submissions. Their submissions were chosen out of hundreds of entries from across the Rio Grande Valley.

In the High School Division, Jennifer Cortez, freshman at Early College High School, earned first place for her entry. Memorial Middle School students Crystal Lucio, eighth grade, and Joe Montalvo, eighth grade, placed second and third place in the Junior High Division, respectively.

In the Intermediate Division, Austin Elementary student Ethan Perena placed third place.

Students ranging from pre-K to 12th grade submitted artwork in the 2012-2013 District Fire Prevention Poster Contest. Winners were selected based on their creativity and incorporation of the year’s theme. The message for this year was Have Two Ways Out.
