Two Harlingen CISD principals have been chosen as Texas finalists in the National Distinguished Principals (NDP) program.

Irma Davis from Dishman Elementary and Dr. Rosalinda Cobarrubias from Milam Elementary are two of the final five candidates in what is considered to be the highest praise a principal can receive from his or her peers in the profession.

The National Distinguished Principals program honors exemplary elementary and middle-level principals who set the pace, character, and quality of the education children receive during their early school years.

“I am honored and humbled, first and foremost, to have been nominated by a fellow administrator and to then be named as a National Distinguished Principal (NDP) finalist for Texas,” said Davis. “Dishman has had outstanding success over the years and that success it is attributed to dedication and determination of our amazing students, teachers, and staff. I am very proud of what we have accomplished, and I am honored to serve as Dishman’s principal and to represent this outstanding campus and community.”

“I am genuinely humbled and grateful to have been chosen as one of the five National Distinguished Principal Finalists for the state of Texas,” said Dr. Cobarrubias. “Wow! What an honor! I share this honor with my fellow principals at Harlingen CISD who are as deserving of this recognition. This also epitomizes the extraordinary men and women who are and were a part of Ben Milam Elementary. Together we make amazing things happen, create wonderful memories and help define a better future for generations to come.”

The finalists will now complete a rigorous application process that seeks information regarding best practices at the campus along with statements in regards to school leadership, professional beliefs, campus accomplishments, instructional methodologies, etc. Site visits will be conducted in March, and the Texas NDP winner will be announced in May.

Pre-K through grade 8 principals may be nominated by their peers, their employers, their faculty members, or members of their communities. Nominees for this prestigious award must meet all criteria for selection as a National Distinguished Principal.
