HCISD hosts Special Olympics Motor Training Program

matp-2016-11

The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District held a Special Olympics Motor Activity Training Program at the Harlingen Boys and Girls Club on Thursday, December 8.

The Motor Activity Training Program is designed for athletes who are unable to participate in other Special Olympics sports competitions because of their skill or functional abilities. This very special event aims to prepare athletes — including those with severe or profound intellectual disability and significant physical disabilities — for sport-specific activities appropriate for their ability levels.

During this fun-filled challenge day, the students had the opportunity to participate in activities like parachutes, bean bag toss, moon jumps, ball pit, manipulatives, bowling, basketball, and riding scooters.

Several volunteer groups assisted at the event including the Harlingen Knights of Columbus #11070, Harlingen South Cheerleaders, and various HCISD Special Education staff members and parents.
