Harlingen CISD hosted the 2018 TCA Region VIII Chess Championships on Feb. 3-4 at Harlingen High School South. With about 1,700 competitors, this is believed to be the largest chess tournament held in Cameron County.
The event was attended by chess teams across the Rio Grande Valley. HCISD teams performed well taking some of the top spots in the contest. Coakley Middle School found success with a 2nd place win in the Middle School Championship and Wilson Elementary came in 3rd in the K-3 Championship.
