Under the FDA (Local) exemptions adopted by the Board of Trustees in August 2011, any employee of a business within HCISD’s boundaries or any property owner within the boundaries may send their child to HCISD schools. In spring of 2012, the board also adopted an exemption that allows any student who has attended any school, public or private, within the district’s boundaries, to attend HCISD schools.

Students who enroll at HCISD can experience some of the new facilities in our district. HCISD has made great strides in creating world-class schools for our Harlingen students.
Last year the new Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy opened its doors to 1,300 students, the new campus features a collaborative, technology-rich environment with a focus on the education and success of ninth grade students.
This year HCISD will open the Harlingen School of Health Professions to give students an advantage through a challenging curriculum geared towards placing them on a career path in a medical profession.
HCISD will also open its new state of the art Aquatics Center this fall. The athletic facility will provide students with an environment to nurture athletic abilities and further increase scholarship opportunities.
