HCISD earns Superior Rating in financial management practices

Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District’s department of Business Services was recognized for their superior financial management practices at the October board meeting. The district was awarded a rating of Pass by the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) School FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas) program.

HCISD received a score of 94 out of a possible 100, resulting in a rating of Superior or a letter rating of A.

Ratings are based on an analysis of staff and student data reported for the 2015-2016 school year and the budgetary and actual financial data for the 2015 fiscal year. All areas of the district’s financial management were reviewed according to 15 indicators.

School FIRST, ensures that Texas public schools are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices and that they improve those practices. The system is designed to encourage Texas public schools to better manage their financial resources to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes.
