HCISD celebrates Board Recognition Month

The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District is taking time to recognize those who help lead students towards a brighter future.

Throughout the month of January, HCISD will celebrate Board Recognition Month, which honors local school board members for their work in the community. All 28 campuses will display messages of appreciation on their marquees and halls. In addition, the district’s website will showcase each member during the week of Jan. 14 through Jan. 21.

“We recognize our outstanding school board members for their leadership in our community, state and nation,” said Superintendent Dr. Steve Flores. “There are over one thousand school boards in Texas, and I believe this is the finest school board in the entire state.”

To commemorate the 2013 celebration, members were presented with a token of gratitude during the Board of Trustees meeting on Jan.15. The token was a collection of photos from their experiences at HCISD.

Every year, the district recognizes January as Board Appreciation Month.

School board members are advocates of public education and are elected by the community to serve on their local board. Members are committed to advancing the success of children. They provide their efforts without receiving compensation.
