At Gutierrez Middle School, putting your best foot forward is always rewarded, and this year, they’ve implemented a new program to further emphasize this belief on campus.

The campus has started the Good Citizen Award program, which awards students for demonstrating trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship in many different ways, said Gutierrez counselor Elizabeth Minto-Bauer. To earn the Good Citizen Award, campus teachers will nominate students that exemplify these traits, and a new student will be selected each month.

This month, the first Good Citizen Award went to eighth grade student Stacie Garcia.

The selected student is awarded a 25 people party pack to Peter Piper Pizza. In May, A Good Citizen of the Year Award will be given to a student, along with 8 tickets to Schilitterbahn Water Park.

Minerva Simpson with Fairway Mortgage Company sponsors the program.
