Gillman, HCISD to recognize perfect attendance students at ceremony

Gillman-Awards-2

On May 16, one lucky 10th, 11th or 12th grade student will leave the Gillman Chevrolet car dealership in Harlingen with the keys to a brand new 2015 Chevy Sonic. Their win of the grand prize will be a mix of luck and dedication, as it will represent their selection as the top prizewinner of the RGV DRIVE for Perfect Attendance Awards.

To honor students that have sustained perfect attendance throughout the year, Gillman will host an end of the year event at their Harlingen Chevrolet dealership for HCISD 10, 11th to 12th grade students. Students who maintain perfect attendance throughout the year are not only invited to the event but are also placed into raffle to win a 13” MacBook Pro, iPad Mini, Samsung Galaxy Tablet and various $50 gift cards.

The celebration will begin at 10:30 a.m.

As a special prize, seniors who qualify for lifetime perfect attendance, which means they maintained perfect attendance throughout elementary, middle and high school, will be awarded an iPad mini. The RGV Drive for Perfect Attendance Awards program includes over $100,000 in prizes for 11th to 12th grade students reaching attendance goals throughout the year.

“Our partnership with Gillman allows us the opportunity to recognize the importance of school attendance and our students who have attained perfect attendance throughout the year,” said Superintendent Dr. Art Cavazos. “As we prepare to congratulate these students on their achievement, we hope it serves as a reminder to other students that perfect attendance pays off at HCISD and we look forward to naming a grand prize winner on May 16.”

In addition to the prizes from Gillman, HCISD raffled 72 iPad minis at all high schools and middle schools after each academic quarter for students who had perfect attendance in the quarter, allowing students who miss for illness during one quarter to be eligible for a reward in a subsequent quarter.

HCISD randomly selected eligible students for the individual awards in accordance with contest rules and district policies for attendance.

For elementary students, HCISD rewarded campuses with additional funding for reaching attendance goals throughout the first five, six-week periods with the money used to reward students at the campus level for attendance.

Complete rules for the program can be found at www.hcisd.org/driveforattendnce.

  1. When and how will students be notified of they qualify? Are parents notified?

  2. Students will be notified by their campus if they qualify and should be notified sometime early this week at the latest. If there are any questions regarding eligibility, please contact your child’s respective campus.
