Over 500 students from the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District and surrounding areas flocked into the Texas State Technical College Cultural Arts Center Thursday, September 18, for the district’s annual College Night.

More than 100 representatives from 63 colleges across Texas and the country met with students, to inform them on the opportunities available at their campuses. The growing function also saw representatives from six neighboring high schools in attendance.

“I want to major in industrial design and after visiting with the University of Houston at their booth during college night, I know that I don’t have to move outside of Texas to study the field that I’m interested in,” said Levi Dominguez HHS senior.

The comprehensive high schools, Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South, alternate hosting the event. This year HHSS hosted the evening of higher education.

“Our efforts are to bring more awareness to all the students by facilitating their access to information on various colleges and universities,” said HHSS Counseling Department Chair Dr. Valerie Paredes. “Students’ awareness of the various options is vital, so it’s important for them to know what’s available.”
