During a special board meeting on May 6, the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the hiring of the district’s Early Childhood Specialist, Dyslexia/RTI/504 Specialist and Coordinator of Marketing Services.
Mary Alvarez was hired as the district’s Early Childhood Specialist. With over 30 years of experience in education, Alvarez previously served as the Early Childhood Specialist for Austin Independent School District for two years. She’s also held positions as a reading technical assistance specialist, elementary language arts teacher and second grade bilingual teacher.
Melissa Villanueva was approved as the district’s Dyslexia/RTI/504 Specialist. Having served as the district’s Educational Diagnostician since 2004, she brings over 15 years of experience in education. She has also held positions at Waco and Weslaco ISD as a Special Education Resource teacher.
The board approved Maritza Gallaga for the position of Coordinator for Marketing Services. Since 2012, she has served as the Writer/Videographer in the Public Relations Department. Completing her master’s degree in advertising from the University of Texas at Austin in 2012. She also holds a bachelors degree in journalism from the University of Texas Pan-American.
