The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Ronnie Rios as Director of Music Education during their regular meeting on April 12.
Rios continues to go above and beyond for the HCISD music community. He has served at Harlingen High School since as Director of Bands for 20 years where he led his bands to great success.
Highlights of his career include: consistent Superior Ratings and Sweepstakes Awards; 100 Best in Class honors at various jazz festivals (including eight consecutive Grand Champion Awards at TAMUK Jazz Festival); prestigious Jazz Band performances at IAJE – New York, TMEA, TBA, and Midwest Clinic Chicago; Concert Bands have won numerous Best in Class awards at the regional and national level; Honors Band advanced to TMEA state finals four times, finishing as high as ninth place; named to “Who’s Who Among American HS Teachers” five times; Texas Excellence in Education Award; TBA Exemplary HS Band of the Year; Texas Young Bandmaster of the Year; HCISD Teacher of the Year; Harlingen Jaycees Distinguished Citizen Award; National HS Jazz Winner-‐Mark of Excellence; and was featured HS Band at National Concert Festival – Indianapolis.
Rios began his career in education in 1987 as Assistant Band Director at Kingsville ISD. He earned his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Texas A&M – Kingsville.
Congratulations Ronnie!! I enjoyed working with you while teaching at HHS and have followed your successes through the years.
