Ben Milam Elementary and Harlingen High School South team up for Read for the Record Day

The students of Ben Milam Elementary School were in for a treat as special guests arrived for a morning of story telling.

Ben Milam celebrated Read for the Record Day with Harlingen High School South football players, cheerleaders and Southern Stars Oct. 4. The students donned their uniforms to read Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad to every classroom.

The day’s mission is to promote childhood literacy and ensure that every child in the United States enters school prepared to succeed.

It’s an eventful day for the elementary and high school students. Ben Milam students showed support for their guests by wearing green and orange.

“We don’t know who is more excited, our students or the high school students,” said Rosalinda Cobarrubias, principal at Ben Milam. “It’s a day for literacy and our students look forward to it every year.”

Ben Milam has participated in Read for the Record Day with the help of Harlingen High School South for 12 years.
